Something I don’t understand: why there isn’t some part of early-childhood education that teaches people how to appropriately apologize. I’ve seen this addressed by religious scholars and by secular folks, but the audience seems to be adults. Which, yeah, cool… definitely necessary. But if all you’re telling the four-year-old to do when messing up their peer’s day is “say you’re sorry,” is it really a surprise that the kid will grow up knowing only how to mouth the words and not ever express genuine remorse?
